Recombinant Human Interferon Gamma (rhIFN-γ)
Product Information
Part Number: I002
Product Name: Interferon Gamma
Synonyms: IFN-γ, Interferon gamma, IFNG
Quantity: 100 µg
Description
Interferon gamma (IFN-γ) is a secreted protein belonging to the type II interferon family. It is produced predominantly by NK and NKT cells as part of the innate immune response, and by CD4⁺ T helper cells and CD8⁺ cytotoxic T lymphocytes after the development of antigen-specific immunity.
IFN-γ exhibits antiviral, immunoregulatory, and antitumor properties. In addition to its antiviral activity, IFN-γ plays important immunoregulatory roles. It is a potent activator of macrophages, exerts antiproliferative effects on transformed cells, and can enhance the antiviral and antitumor activities of type I interferons.
IFN-γ is critical for both innate and adaptive immunity, particularly in host defense against:
-
Viral infections
-
Intracellular bacterial infections
-
Tumor development and progression
Source
Recombinant protein produced in Escherichia coli (E. coli).
The recombinant human IFN-γ corresponds to the extracellular domain (aa 24–166) fused at its C-terminus to a short spacer peptide (4 aa) and a six-histidine tag (6×His) for purification.

Biological Activity
The antiviral activity of IFN-γ is determined by measuring its ability to prevent infection and cytopathic destruction of HEp-2 cells (human laryngeal carcinoma cell line, ATCC No. CCL-23) by Mengo virus.
The specific activity of IFN-γ is approximately: 2 × 10⁷ IU/mg, when calibrated against the WHO International Standard for IFN-γ (Gxg 01-902-535).
